Ikenobo ikebana was created by the Ikenobo family in the 15th century. (The current headmaster is the 45th in line.)

So, would the first headmaster have been disappointed, dismayed, or, more likely, delighted at Sensei Noda’s 1 ½ hour demonstration?

No longer did we watch the sensei take us through ALL the early shoka arrangements. Instead, he skipped us quickly through the centuries and dwelt mainly on freestyle.  FREESTYLE…who would have thought of that even five years ago! I don’t know that those attendees without an Ikenobo background learned a lot about the school, but they certainly marveled at sensei Noda’s incredible dexterity with the hasamis and his amazing creativity using mainly our own desert materials. We all hope he returns soon for more workshops and demonstrations.
