We started with a special presentation to Linnéa Storm our immediate past president. There was a beautiful cake, compliments of our current president, Wanda LaLoggia, and a small Ikenobo vase, direct from Japan to thank Linnéa for all her hard work from working with Ikenobo Headquarters, to arranging our annual workshop schedule (including the visiting professor’s), to teaching workshops and paying attention to all the details of running the Arizona Chapter of Ikenobo.
Now on to our Saturday workshop…
If you want to hold a workshop using baskets for your Ikenobo Freestyle lesson, wouldn’t it be great if you could find a qualified sensei who is also a longtime basket collector? And we are so lucky to have one right here in our midst. Minnette Siedenburg fits the bill perfectly. She even brought a part of her collection to show the variety of objects that can be called baskets (with and without handles).
After Minnette demonstrated several arrangements (including an interesting one from another ikebana school…Chiko), we set to work and proved that lovely creations can be done in any type of basket, from a 50-cent Goodwill one to a 100-year-old Japanese antique one. All beautiful! Check out the photos.
