September 12th, 2026 Friends n Flowers, Jiyuka in a Teacup with Wanda LaLoggia
We had the pleasure of learning Jiyuka, or freestyle ikebana, under the guidance of Wanda Sensei. Using a teacup as the vessel, Wanda Sensei demonstrated how ikebana can be adapted beautifully for smaller spaces and everyday environments.
She encouraged us to think beyond traditional display areas and consider arrangements for a desk, bathroom, tabletop, or centerpiece. Jiyuka provides the freedom to experiment with materials, containers, and form while still preserving the essential elements of ikebana—line, space, balance, and harmony.
Students then created their own teacup arrangements, discovering how even a small vessel can become an opportunity for creativity and personal expression.
Adding to the spirit of the day, members invited friends to join us, share a cup of tea, and experience ikebana together. It was a lovely opportunity to connect, learn something new, and introduce others to the joy of ikebana.
