October 5th, 2024 Isshuike to Nishuike Workshop with Linnéa Storm

Linnéa Storm sensei set the tone for the workshop by giving a brief history of ikebana and the importance of the samurai (ancient Japanese warriors) in making the Chinese arrangements popular in Japan.

Linnéa sensei then described the shoka arrangement (one of the oldest types) and demonstrated it with a purple smoke tree (kimono) and red stock (kusamono) (the Japanese words respectively for woody materials and flowering materials.)

After her demonstration, all the participants worked on their own creations.  As is proper in Ikenobo workshops, our sensei critiqued (and tweaked) all arrangements, after which they were photographed and carried home by some very satisfied creators. (Be sure to check the photographs out on the website.)
