For our October Zoom workshop, Professor Linnea Storm offered an “Arrangers Choice” class. We could choose either Shoka, Rikka or Jiyuka style arrangements.

The space of a week gives the arranger time to focus on the materials that will make the arrangement reflect the season or in the case of Jiyuka, an arrangement that conveys floral art.  Choosing materials from our native landscape and the beautiful Fall flowers that are prevalent in many of the local markets in our area makes exciting and colorful arrangements.

The result of the week’s creativity was very interesting. Most o f us chose Shoka and a few chose Jiyuka, which is a free style arrangement. The Fall theme was favored by all.

The essence of Ikenobo is to embrace nature through floral design. It is a lifelong endeavor. It goes above and beyond the love of flowers.
