November 1st 2025, Shoka Nisshuike- Linnéa Storm
Once again Sensei Linnéa Storm lead the group through another wonderful lesson with help from Michele Nguyen acting as her literal “right hand man”. But first she awarded certificates recently earned by her students that were present. Lauren Toth received her Kako (11th) and Michele Nguyen her Kakyo (9th).
Linnéa then proceeded to give an informative historical timeline on when and how the first few types of Ikenobo arrangements came to be. Shoka became about because the regular folk were starting to place floral arrangements inside their home tokonomas. Rikka had had its place in castles and in other very large situations and was becoming unwieldy in the homes of the times. Shoka was a much pared down version of the landscape outside. Having only three main yakueda and a sunny and shady side, it was the more modern version of the day.
We arranged two materials, grevelia and safflower in the perfect sequence of shin, soe and tai trying to show off the materials in their most perfect and beautiful state. Our results are posted below.
