October 4th, 2025 Shoka Isshuike- Lauren Toth

In this workshop, participants explored Shoka Isshuike, a traditional Ikenobo style known for its graceful simplicity. Isshuike refers to using a single plant material to express all three elements of the arrangement — Shin, Soe, and Tai.

Sensei Lauren Toth guided the group through the three classical styles of Shoka — Shin (formal), Gyo (semiformal), and So (informal) — explaining how each embodies a distinct sense of balance and expression. She then brought these forms to life through three beautiful demonstrations, each showcasing the subtle differences and elegance within the style.

Participants had the opportunity to create their own Shoka Isshuike arrangements, putting their learning into practice. The photos shared here capture the artistry and individuality of the works created that morning — we hope you enjoy them!
