Workshop Details

I am really looking forward to being with the Arizona Chapter members via Zoom for the October 24th, 2021 Big Impact freestyle. You just had a wonderful workshop with Lauren Toth arranging miniature freestyle. For this workshop we will travel towards the opposite end of the spectrum. Let’s think about a freestyle you might arrange for a demonstration or an exhibit. These jiyuka are typically bigger than those you arrange for displaying in your home. For an approximate size imagine you have a 36” x 36” x 5′ tall exhibit place for you to display your arrangement. Don’t forget to leave a little space around your work to help emphasize your ikebana. It is not necessary to use a big container, although you are welcome to. Alternatively think about using a “regular” size container and expanding the space by using light weight, but long or large,  line, surface, point or mass materials like grasses, iris leaves, horsetail,  ferns,  big leaves, dried bark or wood, bittersweet, dried hydrangea, lots of grass heads, or fall colored leaves. Make a structure with your light materials and then add focal interest, big or small flowers,  and some green leaves if you don’t have already have. Also please arrange as if your display space (table or sculpture stand) is 30” tall and guests will be viewing from a standing position. This a good practice for when you have an opportunity to display.

Once you register you will receive the URL to the Zoom meeting and Video lecture Thursday before class. You may arrange anytime and send photos to me by 10 am on the 24th. When you take your photo please take from the point of view of the “exhibit attendees”. If you send in early I will try my best to give you some suggestions and you may edit and resubmit. Otherwise we will go over everyone’s sakuhin masterpiece during the workshop, and go over any questions you may have. Looking forward to seeing you on the 24th! – Jeanne Holy
