April 18th 2026, Tatehana– with Linnéa Storm

    • Tatehana

We had the honor of studying Tatehana under the guidance of Linnéa Sensei. Tatehana, meaning “standing flowers,” is a prayer offering that expresses reverence and aspiration through strong upward movement. The arrangement is designed to evoke a feeling of looking toward the heavens, with carefully placed materials creating both dignity and grace.

Linnéa Sensei emphasized the importance of a clear center line and mizugiwa (water’s edge), which provide the foundation for the arrangement. Students explored the relationship between the upper materials, representing heaven, and the lower materials, representing the people, learning how balance, line, and space contribute to the spiritual feeling of Tatehana.

Through demonstration and practice, students gained a deeper appreciation for this traditional form and its ability to convey both beauty and devotion.

We were also pleased to celebrate Lisa Schleier., who received her Chuden Certificate in recognition of her continued study and achievement in ikebana. 🌿🌸
