May 2nd 2026, Shoka Shimputai – Divided with Linnéa Storm
We had the honor of studying a divided Shimputai arrangement under the guidance of Linnéa Sensei. In this style, the arrangement is separated into distinct groupings, allowing space and relationship between the materials to become an important part of the design.
Linnéa Sensei emphasized the balance between unity and separation, encouraging students to consider how the divided elements communicate with one another through line, movement, and negative space. Attention was given to the placement of materials so that each grouping maintained its own character while still contributing to a harmonious overall composition.
Through demonstration and practice, students explored how a divided Shimputai arrangement can create a feeling of openness, movement, and contemporary expression while remaining rooted in ikebana principles.
