March 14th 2026, Shoka Shimputai- Visiting Professor Chizuko Goto
We had the privilege of studying Shoka Shimputai under the guidance of Chizuko Goto Sensei. This modern interpretation of the traditional Shoka style balances classical principles with greater creativity, allowing arrangers to highlight the natural beauty and character of their materials.
The arrangement typically features two main elements that work together to create harmony through line, space, and movement. Emphasis is placed on balance, contrast, and interaction, giving the materials room to express both individuality and unity.
Through Sensei’s guidance, students explored how Shoka Shimputai offers a fresh and contemporary expression while remaining rooted in the essence of ikebana.
