March 14th 2026, Jiyuka – Visiting Professor Chizuko Goto
We had the privilege of learning about Jiyuka, the free-style arrangement, from Chizuko Goto Sensei. She emphasized that the most important first step in Jiyuka is deciding what you wish to highlight—whether it is the flowers, the vase, or the purpose of the arrangement, such as a wedding, birthday, or other occasion.
Once this intention is clearly defined, it guides all subsequent choices, including the selection of flowers and materials, as well as the style of arrangement. These decisions are then thoughtfully aligned with the environment, the season, and the overall feeling one wishes to express.
Through this approach, Jiyuka becomes not just an arrangement, but a deliberate and personal expression of both intention and setting.
