May 3rd, 2025 Shoka Sanshuike- Divided with Linnéa Storm

On Saturday, May 3rd, Ikenobo members came together for a hands-on workshop with Linnea Storm Sensei, diving into the world of Divided Shoka Sanshuike, a modern take on the classic shoka style. Sanshuike is a great example of how ikebana evolves. It sits right between the structured shofutai and the freer shimputai. While it gives artists more room to be creative, it still sticks to core principles.
What makes shoka sanshuike special is the use of three different materials, which opens up so many possibilities. (Seriously, the creative options are endless!) The goal is always to create harmony through contrast, line, and form.
So how is the divided shoka different? Separating the arrangement into two groups creates yohaku, open space that adds depth and meaning.
We hope you enjoy the photos from the day. They capture not only the beauty of the arrangements, but also the thoughtful learning and creativity that filled the room thanks to Linnea Storm Sensei.
