The meeting at the Zerio home in Scottsdale began with the introduction of three new guests. We officially welcomed them to our group. Certificates were also presented to Angelica Davis and Shibani Sangelkar. Congratulations to both of them for continuing their Ikenobo education.
Wanda Sensei then lectured on and demonstrated a modern arrangement called Shoka Shimputai, which came about mainly because Japanese homes no longer have tokonomas (special places in houses for arrangement presentations to guests) and because many more types of flowers are available. The structure includes a “shu” (the primary material) and a “yo” (the secondary or partner material). Ashirai (helpers) may be added as needed. A mizugiwa is still mandatory.
All participants then set to work and were critiqued by sensei Wanda. Everyone showed their own creativity to come up with beautiful arrangements.
